Caryatid, the Erectheion, Athens

This caryatid, a column in the form of a female figure, came from the temple of Erectheus, the legendry archaic king of Athens, on the Acropolis of Athens.  Completed by 409BC, the temple was commissioned by Pericles, and the sculptor was Pheidias.
